About the Band

Medina Marching Band is one of the Isle of Wight’s leading musical organisations, combining tradition, performance, and community.

From the striking precision of the Corps of Drums, to the rich, full sound of the Main Band, and the opportunities created through the Learner Development Band, the organisation provides a complete musical pathway for performers of all ages and abilities.

Performing at carnivals, concerts, community events, and prestigious engagements across the island and the UK, Medina Marching Band is proud to deliver high-quality entertainment while fostering a lifelong passion for music.

The Corps of Drums

The Corps of Drums are dedicated to achieving the highest standards of drill, bugling, and percussion. Through discipline, precision, and commitment, they deliver performances that are both visually striking and musically exceptional.

Leading the Medina Marching Band on parade, the Corps of Drums create a powerful first impression. Their sharp drill movements, intricate stick work, and immaculate turnout combine to give the band a commanding visual presence that captures attention wherever they perform.

Over the years, the Corps has built a strong reputation as one of the most respected Corps of Drums in the UK. Their style and musicality are heavily influenced by the traditions of the buglers of H.M. Royal Marines, reflecting a proud heritage of excellence and professionalism.

Many members of Corps of Drums have gone on to pursue successful careers in the Armed Forces, with several achieving the distinction of becoming Buglers in the Royal Marine Bands. This legacy highlights the Corps’ role in developing both talent and ambition.

In addition to leading the band, the Corps of Drums regularly perform as a standalone unit. They are available for private engagements, displays, and formal events, where their precision and presence consistently leave a lasting impression.

The Band

The band is a full wind ensemble featuring a wide range of instrumentation, bringing together musicians of all ages and abilities.

The band comprises Cornets, Saxophones, Clarinets, Flutes, Trombones, Euphoniums, Tubas, Tuned Percussion, and more—creating a rich, balanced sound across every performance, whether that be in concert or on the march.

Throughout the year, they perform an exciting and varied repertoire, always aiming to create a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere that everyone can enjoy.

From classic 80s hits and contemporary artists, to traditional military marches, film scores, and upbeat dance music, there is something in every performance for everyone. This versatility allows the band to connect with diverse audiences at every event.

The Main Band leads three or more concerts each year and plays a central role in performances across the Isle of Wight and beyond. Whether appearing at carnivals, summer fêtes, or prestigious engagements, they perform alongside the Corps of Drums to deliver memorable and dynamic displays.

Beyond performance, the band is passionate about developing musicianship and fostering a lifelong love of music. It continues to support young people in learning instruments, building confidence, and in some cases, progressing towards careers in the Armed Forces—continuing a proud tradition within the organisation.

The Learner Development Band

The Learner Development Band provides a supportive and structured environment for musicians of all ages to begin their musical journey.

Offering tuition from complete beginner level, it gives individuals the opportunity to learn an instrument from scratch with guidance from both professional tutors and experienced volunteer instructors. Through a combination of one-to-one and group tuition, alongside regular ensemble playing, members build confidence, develop essential musical skills, and experience the enjoyment of making music together from an early stage.

The Learner Development Band plays a vital role in preparing musicians for progression into the Main Band, helping to develop not only technical ability but also a lasting passion for music that can continue for years to come.
